Minnesota, The Early Years
When they arrived in America, the Fritscher families lived in Jackson County and also in Murray and Nobles counties, all located in the southwest corner of Minnesota. This was the plains area of Minnesota and it was an excellent location for farming. Click on the thumbnail map above to view the area in detail. On the map, the County in the far lower left corner, is Rock County with Nobles the County just to the east, and Jackson County to the east of Nobles. None of our family has been found in Rock County although some did eventually move farther west into the Dakotas. Directly to the north of Nobles County is Murray. The small towns in the southwestern part of Minnesota were just beginning to take shape as the railway forged its way across the plains. Towns like Adrian and Avoca were primary destinations when the new families arrived from Europe.
